How to Tell if High Winds Damaged
Your Roof
If your roof was damaged by high winds, there are a few things you can look for to determine the extent of the damage. First, check for missing or damaged shingles. If you see any bare spots or damage to the shingles, it's likely that the wind has caused some damage to your roof. Another thing to look for is any damage to the gutters or downspouts. If the wind has knocked them loose, they may need to be replaced. Finally, check for any leaks in the roof. If you see any water stains on the ceiling, it's likely that there is some damage to the roof that needs to be repaired.
It’s not something you’re likely to think about, nor see as you pull up to your house; it’s roof damage. After a week of storms, we’re usually happy to see the cloud’s part and the sun shine through. But remember that those storms could have caused significant damage to your roof - from either hail or high winds. The roof may have bang-ups, loose shingles and/or spots of missing asphalt. If the roof is old or you suspect, it’s got some issues - give us a call. We’re the experts and we’ll be looking for all the possible signs of damage that an insurance company would require to cover the cost of a new roof.
Wind Can Cause Damage to Your Home
Homeowners need to be aware that high winds can cause damage to their property. While most people think of hazards like fallen branches and power lines, the wind can also cause damage to the structure of your home. Shingles can loosen or fall off in high winds, and strong winds can also tear away new, secure shingles. Other potential wind damage includes damage from falling objects and debris, such as tree branches and power lines.
Wind Damaged Roofs
At Corey J Pate, we specialize in wind damage repair. We understand that roofs are susceptible to wind damage because high winds can hit roofs uniformly. We also know that wind damage typically occurs at the edges of the roof or in areas where the roof is already loose. If you have any loose shingles, we can replace them and prevent further damage. We can also inspect your roof for any debris or falling objects. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for choosing Corey J Pate!
What is the best roof for high winds?
When it comes to high wind resistance, the quality of your roofing materials and installation is crucial. Make sure you use strong decking and high-quality fasteners to keep everything in place. And don't forget about craftsmanship—it's important for making sure your roof can withstand strong winds. Many metal roofs can handle wind speeds upwards of 150 mph.
Wind Speed Damage
You don't need to worry about winds below 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service. These non-severe winds may cause some tree branches to break off and can damage loose or susceptible shingles, but that's about it. Once winds reach 58 mph, however, they become severe and cause significant damage to landscaping and structures. At this range, wind will take down whole tree limbs, begin to uproot trees, rip off shingles that were in good condition and cause issues with chimneys. And if winds reach 75 mph or higher, widespread damage to trees will occur, mobile homes will flip, and commercial buildings and homes will sustain significant roof damage.
Identifying Wind Damage to Your Roof
If you've recently experienced high winds, please give us a call. We will inspect your roof for common signs of damage, such as loose or missing shingles, chimney issues, curling or peeling shingles, granule loss, damaged soffit or fascia and indoor leaks. High winds can also cause tree branches to fall and damage a roof, so it's important to be vigilant. Thank you for choosing our company.
In some cases, the wind can be so strong that it can completely remove shingles from the roof. This exposes the underlayment and sheathing to the elements and can cause serious damage if not fixed quickly. We'll inspect your roof for any missing shingles and work quickly to get them replaced.
One of the easiest ways to tell that you have a wind damaged roof is the loss of entire shingles. If you find shingles in your yard or around your house, you’ll definitely want to have a professional come out and look at what else could cause you trouble. Strong winds can completely rip shingles off leaving your roof vulnerable.
Cracks or Tears in a Flat, Rubber Roof
If you have a flat roof, we’ll look for missing pieces or tears in the material. Wind can lift up the material and rip it away or leave it with bubbles which hurts the integrity of the covering.
Damaged Soffit or Fascia
Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home, and it's important to keep it in good condition. Damaged soffit and fascia can lead to water damage or allow pests inside. If your chimney is looking crooked, that could be a sign of a problem. And finally, if you see any discoloration, wet spots, or peeling paint inside your home, that could be a sign of a roof leak. Ignoring storm damage can have serious consequences, so it's important to be aware of the signs and take action quickly.
How to Repair a Wind-Damaged Roof
We're here to help you repair any wind-related roof damage. The severity of the damage will dictate the necessary repairs, which can range from replacing shingles to installing an entirely new roof. If you think your roof has been damaged, it's important to act quickly and schedule a property evaluation. The longer you wait, the worse the damage will become.
